Deep rolling an aircraft shock strut

The contour shown in picture 6 proved not to be operationally sound when trialled. The production of the plane groove was so problematic that substantial scoring occurred when cutting which then resulted in failure. Burnishing the critical areas as well as strengthening by deep rolling was able to ensure operational safety.
